The difference in displacement wasn't from bore between the 2.5 and 3.0, it was from stroke. So you won't have to bore it out for the OEM 3.0 pistons.

NickG's stage 2 kit used a thicker head...

The benefit of the diesel gearbox to the petrol engine would be, if you're willing to make the engine mounts match the 10 degree change, your engine is rotated for a bigger top mount turbo setup!
