It depends on the driver and the type of driving done. I've seen rotors and pads shot at 25,000 miles (stop and go driving, hard brake use) and I've seen them last 80,000 highway miles. YMMV

If you don't want the others to break, heat them up with welding or butane torch first. They come off a lot easier then.

My 1999 328i with the GM transmission shifts more firmly when it is cold. It shifts nice and smooth when it is warm. I don't think mine has a problem, its just a characteristic of this model.
