Depends on the topography - many places I can shift at 1500 rpm and be fine. Warmer weather I average 25-26 mpg (most of winter in other words) in my 330i. A lot of times I am in 5th at 35-40 mph.

Took it to the shop - they can't find the leak. They added the dye to the oil and drove it around and found no leak at all. :) They just want to be sure that the ofhg is the only thing leaking......

It is not foolish if you know how to drive. I find it is better turned off in snow - else the traction control is going off at less than 10 mph on ice. I have zero issues with driving in the snow...

That would make sense to me if there was oil anywhere near the front of the engine. The pictures I have seen are usually oil spread from the belts back. My belts are bone dry with no sign of oil...
