Guessing you don't go under the car much...It's certainly not plastic, and I'd consider it structural as it bolts right on to the FCAB housing. I wouldn't drive my car around the block without it.

If they figure out a way to keep that pan intact + retain the stock washer fluid reservoir + relocate the intake higher/inside the engine bay(2ndary air pump spot)... I'd switch over tomorrow.
