That is the first thing I did!

I removed all the old VPS and installed a completly new single strip of 3M Butyl Tape and water still leaks in from Driver Side Rear Door.

Check the flexible wiring on the trunk hinge on right hand side. I had the same issue and wire had become damaged. You will have to pull back the black flexible covering to expose wire bundle.

I adjusted mine to remove seats and the lights came on. After a week I readjusted the steering wheel position again and the lights came off....
