Check if the belts are not obscured by anything. Sounds like something is flapping as the pulleys are turning. Inspect the pulleys if any are seized.

Yep. Did mine in November as it started leaking from around the half moons. It was PITA to remove 10 yr old gasket but 30 mins later it came off. The inner side of the valve cover was also covered...
