I still have the upper trim and yes it does work. It's multifunction so it has the volume up/down, answer call, cruise control, etc. PMing you pics now.

I don't know if it would fit a non-m. I'll PM pics of the wheel. I tried painting the bottom trim long ago and did a horrible job so I threw it away and replaced it with a CF version.
