You can get the belt out without taking anything...

You can get the belt out without taking anything off (but the underpanel) from underneath the car. Takes patience, even with a lift, but it can be done.

You'll never be able to drain all of the oil out. It is possible that the remaining old oil had enough dirt in it to make the new oil dark.

The smell and feel would probably be a better indicator...
