I think you are trying to fill the wrong hole. Have another good look around for the fill plug. From memory it may be on the side of the ZF transmission, near the back... Not at the back.

I just went through the same thing. In my case...

I just went through the same thing. In my case the key would open the drivers door and trunk, but not work in the ignition. They got me another in a few days that works fine.
