Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. As for the oil leak, I saw it with my own eyes, we put a mirror behind the head and used a light, it certainly looked like oil coming from the freeze plug....

At one point mine was pushed in on one corner, I had to pull quite hard to get it to clip in.

You shouldn't put any manual in first unless the car is stopped...that is sort of a basic on standard shift vehicles.
