Lean usually means vacuum/intake leak. My money is on DISA valve leaking, just a guess as the engine usually runs really rough when that leaks. Try spraying brake clean on the DISA valve seal and see...

check ur heater core temp sensor. i seen that prevent the water valve from being told to open once. if u know someone with an e46, try using their ihka(climate control unit), it just pops out.
