they're not welded on ... they just slide on and off. i replaced mine last year. i was missing one and the other was a b*tch to get off. you have to pull and pull and pull and finally it will free...

a good PDR shop should be able to get that out but they might have to drill a hole in the door jam to gain access to it and plug it afterwards. i'd take it to a different PDR shop and have them look...
