When changing the headlight bulbs it is a good time to check out the wires inside the headlight housing to make sure the wire insulation has not failed and cracked and fallen off exposing bare wires....

BMW should offer a replacement wire harness but they don't.

Have them come to your place and do the refurbish. Should be drivable within 3-4 hours. just don't touch the repaired area.
