Yeah, I have been through my fair share of VCGs. Def not VR gasket this time. I have Elring gaskets and grommets this time around. It has been days from installation.

I did pull the plug before the VCG change and new plugs. There was some oil pooled up in the well at the bottom. I am also am not convinced it is right to use sealer in this area.

By both sides of the gasket, you mean add RTV between the valve cover and gasket AND gasket to metal face of the engine? I was thinking about this, but did not want to cause a big RTV mess all over...

Have you eliminated oil filter housing gasket (OFHG)? I believe I had a similar looking leak before I diagnosed the OFHG. Could also be oil pan gasket?
