I've used both types in my car; your specific car model determines what fitment your corners are. BMW E46 3-Series/M3 vehicles in the years 1999-2001 take slide-in's, 2002-2006 take screw-in.

What does an OEM hood have on the underside?

Is there supposed to be a soft, squishy material on the underside of an OEM e46 M3 (2004) hood? I got my car back from the dealer and I don't recall this being there before. I can't see its purpose...
