I ended up contacting the seller on Ebay. Looks like there's no way to adapt the pump, so he's going to switch it with the correct pump.

Look at how the spring attaches to the piece....

Look at how the spring attaches to the piece. Make sure the hook goes into the top of the hole. If you hook it up from the bottom, it will fall out again.
