I really had to push against the solenoid clip...

I really had to push against the solenoid clip with the tool top get a good bite with the top bolt (rectangular, and I know what you mean now Drew). . . weird.

Just got it off. It was barely fitting with end#2 in between the vanos and valve cover. Thanks guys.

I have the tool set up from the right side of the car(car's viewpoint) and I did rotate back and forth with the wrench while trying to grab two bolts (wp pulley bolts), one top and the other bottom....
