There are a couple of wheels in 16" that clear the 330i brakes which you can use with size 205/55R16 or 225/50R16 with no problem. If you use a 17x8" wheel, you can use 225/45R17.

225/40R18 would be the only size that is a guaranteed fit, but feel free to try the 235/40R18 if you'd like. Since they are already used you can always resell them if they rub.

While you can run that size on a stock suspension or a slight lowering, it might be too aggressive for a race spring lowering. Also the Super Sport is less expensive and a much better tire.

Agreed, 225/50R17 is pretty tall. 225/45R17 fits with no problem and most can use 235/45R17 without rubbing as well.

The difference in size change alone is not great enough that it cannot be overcome with tire choice in most cases. For example, a stiffer riding 225/45R17 will often have a more harsh ride...

We didn't get 2008 320D vehicles here in the USA so I cannot tell you for sure if 235/45R17 would fit, but that size does fit our 328i cars.
