I would look into rear subframe reinforcement before you do anything else. You could probably (guessing) get into a six speed 540i for the same amount as you will need to spend.

I think the roundel is different on coupes and verts as far as the trunk lid handle goes. Check Realoem as Choxor said to be sure.
