Actually - if you put it in M1 and floor it the transmission will shift automatically at about 6000 rpm - you do not have to move the selector. Personally I refer to it as "launch control".

If you do not have the mechanical skills to drain the coolant from the radiator and engine block and replace the expansion tank then you should definitely take it to a qualified mechanic.
