Gotcha. I tried those actually in the X5 before I got an actual LED Kit. My guess is the resistor pack that 'tricks' the computer into thinking the fog light is not burned out is simply getting hot....

Well the LEDs in the housing produce a ton of light. More than really is ever needed... and a LED light bar is a good way to attract unwanted attention. Smaller housings that have the look of a fog...

From what I have seen not all are created equal. Sure the little SMD 'bulbs' aren't great but there are kits that have as much, if not more, output than HID and fit into the factory housing.
