I stand corrected. I personally would have verified such high numbers, but I can see how 99% of owners or even ones working in a shop would just inflate it to those amounts.

For what it's worth,...

I read the thread. Good job on the deal, systematic diagnosis and repair.

I agree with your suspected sequence of events. And as with most things E46, ignoring one problem usually creates...

1.) What exactly are VANOS fluids? In any case, a 160k-mile E46 is not "redone" with new coils and sensors.

2.) I suspect a fuel delivery issue, but with an M56 out of warranty I'd start looking...

Post a picture. That would be the first tire pressure sticker on an E46 that doesn't differentiate nominal vs max load.

I've had my jack pictured above since 2009 I think. No leaks and works great.

Remember, aside from the low price, HF always has a 20% coupon on their site. Just Google it.

I personally love their low profile jacks. They don't bleed down like that twice-more-expensive Craftsman beside it, and a few pumps and the car is in the air.

The HF jacks don't usually picture...

Do the maintenance mod. The stuff you mentioned is a good start, but nowhere close to what a 14 year old, 170k-mile E46 needs.

That's for the E36. Composites are no longer made from Durathan as it was on the E36. On the E46 they utilized PPS, which is far superior. Google it, interesting stuff.

It's supposed to be longer when it's out of the car. Compress it (after you install it above at the RSM) if you have the leverage or use a jack, then slip the bolt on.
