You were right on the money @Solidjake. The red wire had broken right at the zip tie and it was a very clean brake, plus with the zip-tie keeping it bundled with the other two wires, I didn't notice....

Thanks for the advice. I managed to get them out pretty easily using the "grab and yank" approach with the pliers. I'll start removing the fan tomorrow morning.
