On a serious note. Just remove a belt and start it up. See if the noise goes away. If it does check pulleys for play. Don't let the car run for long like this.

The starter works by engaging teeth on the outter edge of the fly wheel. That noise you are hearing is either caused by the starters toothed gear not retracting (bad starter) or trying to re engage...

Lay down being the trans. Put the socket on with an extension and tap it on tight with a hammer. Brace a block of wood against the underside of the car and use it to brace the ratchet on.
