I'd bet money that the trans fluid is only cooled in the hot weather. Don't think that the trans ever needs heating.

The lines to the transmission are trans fluid lines. They feed to a heat exchanger that transmits heat from the trans fluid to the coolant that circulates into the heat exchanger via the red and blue...

Disagree on the block drain. Even with all the other options open to drain, you'll still leave a meaningful amount of coolant if you can't get the drain out....
