Definitely sounds like the battery is dead. You could take it to an auto parts store (like Advance Auto or Auto Zone) and ask to have it tested to confirm.

Have you tried to pop them out with a pickle fork and hammer? The control arms do not drop out once unbolted (unfortunately). Mine took some persuasion.
