Use 2 step epoxy. I've done it a few times. Apply it and use a towel folded over and close the door on it to hold it in place. Leave it for a day to dry and viola.

I have seen CCV's do this. The one in my wife's 325XI did it a couple of times. Replaced everything and no more smoke. Most likely a bad tstat for the engine temp issue.

Engine was probably hydro-locked if there was oil dripping out of the exhaust. It is going to smoke for quite a while after the repair. Always fix the obvious problem first.
