I used contact cleaner to clean my coils and brake cleaner with a wire brush on the plugs. The rest of it I wiped up as best I could and that was about it.

You'd want to heat the block around the bolt, cool the bolt or both for this to be much help.

The VCG can be pretty finicky, and just because the gasket was recently done doesn't mean it isn't...
