I would try prying with a large screwdriver or slipping a chisel in between.

If that doesnt work, grind the lip off the disk in one spot wide enough for the pad.

This seems to solve the problem.
If it works consistently, i will replace the clutch...

I put split vinyl or whatever the clear tube is...

I put split vinyl or whatever the clear tube is at home depot is on the metal edges using a little clear silicone.
Also, I put freezer bags on either side of the battery and filled them with that...
