I believe there is a vacuum hose that goes to the gauge cluster that drives that needle. The hose can dry rot and leak causing the needle to act irrationally and cause idle issues.

I don't think I would use a compressor on a MAF. Delicate wire in there. Dirty MAF is not likely your problem anyway.
