Check that all electrics are working... sounds like a pinched wire thats touching positive and negative.... like maybe a light power... noting bad will happen really it will just melt the rubber wire...

Your tyres probably didn't spin around that corner so traction control would not have done anything. however you may have slid the wheels side ways (like braking on a BMX) therefore no need for DSC...

Well i'm not really sure. I've never been to the USA. but my car if you just have the side lights on. you would have just the little bulbs lit. Then turn the head lights on and the sides stay on too....
