if you aren't going for the 8 cylinder, then why not an 3.0 X3? Less hassle (no air suspension) and the X3 shares a lot with the E46....

Yes indeed. In fact, there are a total of 5 bolts (one extra). All you need to do is flip open the four covers on your roof and bolt them onto your E46. Complete with printed instuctions too.

My last two cars - an Infiniti had 195,### miles and my S-10 had 213,### miles. Both were running strong when I parted with them. I plan to keep my E46 which only has 95,### miles for while.

I was looking for a wagon myself. Try a VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI. The TDI's 177 lbs-ft torque though, feels a lot Less then the ~175 lbs-ft torque from my 325 (both manual.)
