It's the sensor that tells you when you're about to curb the underside of your bumper, looks like it might not be working. :) Actually, I do think it's the wheel liner sensor thingy.

I had a Xenon controller unit go out on my 2003 325Ci and Kuni BMW here in Beaverton wanted over $700 in parts and labor to fix it. I found the part on eBay for $170 and fixed it myself in about 20...

I went through the same thing with mine (2003 325 Ci) but the fixes were a lot less. It's good advice to check into lemon laws and make sure you look into the DIY's on here, they are awesome.
