Throw the new one in the trunk with some OEM coolant and wait until it fails. No reason to replace it is if isnt broken. 200k on mine and still the original.

You dont have to at all. I did everything without jacking the car up. Look for a dit and it'll show you where the one bolt is, its pretty easy to get to once you know what you're looking for.

The oil that leaks out isnt too bad. Remove the cap first to let it drain back into the pan. Once you have it off there is a little spring loaded valve that keeps the rest of the oil from coming out...

Spot on! I think this is your issue. You need the 20 pin connector that goes under the hood or you can't access the BMW modules. they can be had on ebay for dirt cheap, if you want it sooner order it...

I got it up and running with the 20 pin connector on Windows 7 64 Bit.

Make note that without the 20 pin you can still view and clear codes, you just cant code anything (enable/disable features).
