I recently completed the E46 double VANOS seals and anti-rattle fix. I followed the BS procedure and did not TDC the motor. No issues here... I'm still getting a small rattle during acceleration...

Sorry, it's been a while since I've used the PA Soft. Sounds like the scanner could be faulty. Do you have the OBDII->20pin adapter? It'll read some of the modules on the 36M too, see here....
