Go for it, I had mine 997 C4S Cab for 2 years now and no regret. Now I'm just waiting for better weather to take her out of storage.

very likely it is residual oil from the last leak, just clean up the oil on the undercarriage. In a week or so, inspect the undercarriage for any oil.

just order the gromments, the bolts and washers can be reused.
make sure the surfaces are clean for the gromments to make a good contact.

Sounds like the pistion rings are worn off or damaged. You would need to do a compression test. Good compression is about 140 psi.
