I think you could well be right that a dodgy ballast is doing this. Somehow the remote or sensor maybe picking up a feed or pulse...?

Try swapping the bulbs from side to side first to eliminate...

There are no fault codes and it runs fine...when I spoke to BMW they said maybe ignition switch fault and to let the problem "progress" lol and to try spray wd40 in the switch for short term fix

This is happening more often, any ideas what it could be? when I switch the ignition on none of the ignition lights come on (only the clock) and if I keep trying then the ignition all comes to life....

The microfilter is at the back of the engine bay...

The microfilter is at the back of the engine bay (at the top) and v easy to change, just turn the 2 screws to remove the panel. Its for the heater, stops leaves dirt etc coming into the car.

The cabin filter will not stop the bad smell from the air con, it is simply to filter the air of dust/leaves etc before it enters the car.

It is probably a build up of bacteria on the evaporator...

As far I know US bi-xenons do not have the lever, I bought one from the US on ebay for spares and it didnt have it. The regular xenon might have it, Ive seen the little yellow lever/knob on a xenon...

You dont have to bleed the brakes, they are a total different system. The clutch is operated hydraulically and when you remove the cdv you need to break into the fluid line and might need to bleed...
