DIY Sub-Frame Inspection

I was under my car, a 2000 323i 130,000mi, taking a look at the mounting points for the rear sub-frame and didn't see any cracks or anything that might be suspicious. However, the bushings cover the immediate area around the mounting point so if it is fatigued and/or cracked around it, they wouldn't be readily visible. Should I have an assistant shift between drive and reverse and watch for any excessive movement in the bushing? Anyone have any advise how to get a better look? Any tips/advise?

Anyone concidering selling their E46 after learning about this and not going with BMW again?
