TU is for technical update, I dont think an M54TU actually exists, just the M52TU that was in 99-00 e46's before the M54 came out. I think it is just a typo.I'm sure if you call and ask bimmerworld they can tell you but the way I interpret it is that 5w40 is the way to go for track use, even in milder climates.
