Well, I got lucky. Looks like someone just left the nuts off.
Picked some up at the local BMW parts *****house. Cleaned the threads, bushings and bar. Also had to bend the brackets back into shape. Lubed everything with white lithium grease and it's back together.
Just another reason why everyone should always do their own work.
