They should check all the suspension parts prior to performing an alignment, and should advise replacement before completing the alignment.
Read up on alignment here- go to the bottom of the page and watch the inside shoulder wear. Excessive toe is normally more of a cause of inside tire wear than camber on E46s.
Excessive negative camber could result from lowering your car.
