OK, replaced the rod, all is great...back up for rent.

In the future, be sure to GREASE the rod...but not the bushing.

Or you can go to Home Depot and buy a 7/16", 14 pitch threaded rod and cut it down if you strip the rod. If not, you will receive your deposit less $40 for replacement costs, 15 minutes of labor to cut the rod, and an aggravation fee.
