Lightbulb Ghetto headlight reflector repair

If anyone has had their headlights get so dim they hardly light up the road, you may want to check the reflector inside the projector. Mine (stock HIDs on an 03) were the plastic reflector style and all the chrome burned off. Here is my half-ass repair to get the headlights functional again. They're not quite good as new, I would say output is still down 10-15%, but before the repair I would guess output was less than 50%.

I used aluminum duct tape. This stuff is basically heavy duty aluminum foil with adhesive backing. Cut and pasted pieces to cover the inside of the reflector. Rubbed the tape down with a microfiber to keep from scratching it while getting it pressed down as smooth as possible then hand polished the aluminum tape with Flitz on a microfiber until nice and shiny (doesn't take long). You could use Simichrome or most any aluminum polish.

I did this in August but waited to post this until they had some time on them and I was sure they would last. Still working great

BMW should recall these lights. For now hope this helps.
