Whistling on Acceleration and Lean codes
Hey guys, first time poster here.
I recently purchased my first e46 330ci. When I first test drove the car I noticed a slight whistling on acceleration. I just figured it was a crack in one of the intake boots and wasn't a big deal. Once I got the car home I popped in both of the two intake boots, cleaned the MAF, ICV, DISA and replaced the old Spectre airfilter with a new one. After I finished up the job, the whistling was still apparent and a couple days later she started kicking out the tricky p0171 and 0174 codes and misfiring badly with a horrible idle...so that's where my research started. I have read many of the forums on e46 fanatics and Bimmerfest and I THOUGHT that I had finally figured it out. My research brought me to the CCV. It was said that a bad one of these could be the culprit to all of these problems. So I picked up the CCV cold weather kit and and spent the next 4 miserable hours wrestling to get it all hooked up lol. With my fingers crossed I turned the car on and the misfiring had gotten worse and the DISA valve started making a very loud whistling noise. "Aha that's it!" I thought. So the next day I bought a new o ring for the noticeably worn out one on the DISA. After replacing it, the car has a better idle, but still has that darn whistling noise on acceleration and very minute misfires. So my question to all of you seasoned vets of the e46 world, what could be causing the whistling, codes, and misfires?? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
