asian social norms are a lot opposite than western, at least that was the case when I visited there. For example as a guy:
-The more feminine you dress/act over there, the more stylish and polite you are
-The fatter you are, the more wealthier you appear
-Pale skin means you are successful and don't work in manual labor (yes guidos are looked down upon)
