Well, this might sound strange and "out there", some years ago, had a rare '84 ur quattro that that made a noise when I turned only in one direction. It ended up that the reservoir was very low on power steering fluid. After it was topped off, the noise was gone. I know it sounds crazy, but it wouldn't hurt to check your power steering reservoir to make sure it is not low.

As for the noise, go into more detail about it. Is it a scraping noise? Is it a vibration noise? Knocking noise? If you got new wider tires, the inside tread block could now be rubbing against the bodywork. Vibration through the steering wheel at all? The plastic fender well perhaps may have come loose making it so when a left turn is made, the inside tire rubs against the plastic.
