OK...screw it.
I am way too paranoid to worry about these lion batteries.
However, I do love the brightness of the flashlights.
But I really want something to throw in the 72 hour bags, cars, etc.
The answer? New Cree T6 lights that can take AAA or 16850.
They are just a tad thicker and use an adapter tube for the 16850.
At $20 each, AAA battery adapter flashlights with the CREE T6 XML LED seem to be the answer for me.
They can use the 18650 or 3 or 4 AA batteries.
AAA batteries have a 5-10 year shelf life now and they DON'T EXPLODE!
At 4.5v the AAA start out with more voltage than an 18650 at 4.1-4.2 so they should be just as bright.
Of course, the AAA wont last as long for run time (should be around 60%), but you can buy a ton of AAAs at ($.30-.40 each) for the price of good 16850s and charger.
Maybe I can find a AA version which would last 70-80% as long.
My piece of mind is priceless.
