The smart guy would have dropped the front subframe while supporting the engine, and removed the alternator and belts, and installation is the reversal of removal. But, it might be different with the S4.

Is your alignment for camber dependent on the subframe position like the A6?
If he had an engine lift or transmission jack that would be feasible.
