In the office environments I've worked in, that's an expensive enough item to be inappropriate coming from a subordinate to a boss.
It might not be inappropriate coming from a group of employees to their boss. Or it may be that the incomes in your office are substantial enough that a $200 to $300 gift is OK. Only you can be the judge of that.
Frankly, when I was a manager, I didn't want gifts at all from my employees, and if they insisted, I thought they should be very modest. To me, it's weird for employees to spend money on their boss when the boss is the one "giving" them the money to begin with. It also puts the boss in a funny position, like if the boss gives bigger raises and bonuses next year, the boss might get better gifts.
