Incorrect. There's a little hole in the fill compartment (for lack of a better term) behind the fill door that drains the excess out as it would be dangerous to have it sitting in there.

How do you suggest the system "deals with that"?

OP, if this is the case you should be just fine. As was said before, check and keep checking your oil level and you should be able to drive around no problem.
